Emma Sukerta, an 18-year-old Indonesian Canadian from Bali's Banjar Seseh, stands out as an environmental activist and divemaster, deeply rooted in a family heritage of local fishermen. Leading Bye Bye Plastic Bags Jakarta for two years, she established 18 school clubs, driving forward a campaign against plastic pollution and speaking at over 50 engagements on climate advocacy and youth empowerment. Her engagement with global leaders, facilitated by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, underscores her impactful role in environmental dialogue.
Emma's journey took a research-oriented turn post-graduation, celebrated by her participation in marine studies in Seychelles with the Save Our Seas initiative, furthered by a scholarship at Blue Corner Dive. Her academic pursuits transitioned into practical conservation, illustrated by her externship with National Geographic and The Nature Conservancy, and her current focus on acoustic restoration in coral ecosystems.
