finally i sea

“Finally I Sea” tells the intimate story of a nine-year-old girl called Fajita on her journey to see the sea for the very first time. Fajita has grown up in central London and has dreamt of a day at the seaside ever since she can remember, but barriers such as cost mean that she has never been able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Witness the pure and unadulterated emotions as Fajita and her friends finally get to experience a beautiful day on the British coast, as swimming instructor Omie Dale takes them to see the ocean for the very first time.

My objectives for ‘Finally I Sea’ were to spread awareness of the issues surrounding access to nature, and enable more children to spend time in nature, and more specifically by the sea. The grant that I received from Ocean Culture Life enabled me to hire a minibus for the children, myself, and the crew to get to Camber Sands beach from London and back.

  • Without this grant I was struggling to find a financially viable way to transport us all to the beach and so, the children would not have been able to experience their first day by the sea without OCL! Hoxton Garden Primary School (the school in my film) have since taken more classes/children to the seaside which is a huge achievement for the film.

My film has also been shown at Patagonia stores, in film festivals, in Bristol Millennium Square and has been bought by Schoolyard Films. This partnership with Schoolyard Films means that the film will be used to form a lesson surrounding the issues with access to nature in schools all over America. Therefore, my objective of spreading awareness of this topic has been achieved and I have had a lot of feedback from people that have seen the film, especially those who work in schools, who have said that they are going to advocate for more trips to the coast. I couldn’t have achieved this without the support that OCL have provided.
