OCL Storyteller Grant

Through our storytelling grants, we offer our community the unique opportunity to have their ocean stories sponsored. Our commitment goes beyond merely providing financial support for these remarkable stories. We actively facilitate connections between the grant recipients and our expansive ocean community, enabling them to amplify their impact through the power of storytelling.

By connecting grantees with our network, we aim to create a platform for their stories to reach a wider audience. This not only helps in raising awareness about the importance of the oceans but also enhances the potential for meaningful change. Through the art of storytelling, we empower individuals to make a lasting difference and inspire others to take action for the ocean's well-being.

2023’s GRANT APPLICATIONS OPEN NOVEMBER 2023

In our upcoming 2023 grants, we are excited to support storytellers who will propose compelling narratives centered around OCL's community of Ocean Guardians. We believe that these stories hold immense potential to shed light on the invaluable efforts and dedication of individuals working to protect and preserve our oceans.

By funding these storytellers, we aim to amplify the voices of Ocean Guardians and showcase their inspiring work. Their stories will not only captivate audiences but also serve as powerful tools for raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation. Through these narratives, we hope to inspire others to join the ranks of Ocean Guardians and contribute to the well-being of our marine ecosystems.

If you have any specific ideas or proposals related to this theme, we encourage you to share them as we eagerly await the stories that will shape our 2023 grants. If you’d like to nominate an Ocean Guardian, you can do so here.

Introducing the 2022 Grant Recipients

Kaush is our ‘Inspire’ category winner. 'Peixinho' (Little Fish) will be a story of courage, documenting a community in Mozabique, where a young hero inspires a new generation of ocean adovocates; teaching them to swim and interact with the water safely, and improving the sustainability of fishing in the area.

Madeline St. Claire is the ‘Educate’ category winner. Mad’s plans to use the power of storytelling during her research expedition to inspire powerful action to mitigated the amount of plastics used in Fuvahmulah (Maldives) whilst aiding with local led advocacy for conservation.

Stefan Petursson (Styngvi) is the ‘Protect’ category winner. Styngvi will be using his ‘Artivist’ skills to create a series of artwork and illustrations around the theme of whale conservation in Iceland.
