Aaron Lynton | Photographer | Videographer | Filmmaker | Hawaii

Aaron is a visual storyteller and award-winning photographer and filmmaker who specialises in action sports, landscapes, and ocean art.

He was born in Atlanta, Ga, and currently resides in Maui, Hawaii. He loves to play with light and movement, as well as capture special moods, moments and environments. Aaron is eco-minded and wants his art to evoke emotion. He hopes to visually transport the viewer, as well as promote positive awareness of the ocean and the world surrounding us. From waterfalls and whales, to big wave surfing and the Milky Way galaxy, Aaron’s work can momentarily bring you to a beautiful, calmer place.

When did you first start your storytelling journey?

I first started storytelling as a child, inspired by my father. But my real start was while studying film, television & photography at my alma mater, Savannah College of Art and Design.

What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?

Looking back, having a parent that was an artist really inspired me; it most likely set the course for my career at an early age. I have such fond memories of attending my father's art shows and watching my older brother shoot photographs.

What path did you choose after leaving school?

I graduated with a BFA in Film & Television in 2011 and decided to relocate to Maui full-time, to pursue diving and underwater photography/videography.

What/who currently inspires you?

Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me, but I am also inspired by other amazing artists like Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Louie Schwartzberg, Brian Bielmann, Ben Thouard, Jimmy Chin, Fred Pompermayer, Clark Little, Andy Cassagrande, Paul Nicklen, Brian Skerry, Zak Noyle & Chis Burkard.

What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?

There's a big problem in the food industry and the corruption runs so deep. We need to come together as a people and focus on the conservation and sustainability of our planet.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an Ocean Storyteller?

Dedicate yourself to your craft and be punctual & communicative. Plant the seeds now for future success.

What current projects/stories are you working on?
I am currently in pre-production on a film about Humpback Whales in Hawaii, as well as preparing for my annual passion of documenting big wave surfing at Pe'ahi (Jaws).

What legacy do you hope to leave?

I hope to have a positive effect on the world and the people surrounding me. I want to leave behind a legacy of passion and dedication. I hope that my work has an emotional impact, and can help to inspire people to be a part of the solution.
