Dan Florit | Freediver | Ocean Photographer | Menorca | Spain

Born on the island of Menorca, Dan considers himself fortunate to have grown up in close proximity to the sea, an experience that has fostered a profound love for the ocean. His early childhood memories are woven with moments of fishing alongside his grandfather, who imparted valuable lessons on respecting the sea.

Describing himself as an ambitious individual capable of achieving any set goal, Dan immersed himself in learning the intricacies of photography. He also says “I am a ginger boy who tries through photography to give light to life. I've always thought that the fastest way to grow is through the truth, so welcome to my world.”

Grateful to mentors Hilari Camps and Ivan Colomar for imparting foundational knowledge, he transitioned into a career as a filmmaker, specializing in concerts, video clips, and events.

When did you first start your storytelling journey?

I started capturing the ocean around 5 years ago.

What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?

Being an island boy I have always been very connected to the sea. I would like to show the world how beautiful the sea is here.

What path did you choose after leaving school?

When I finished school I started working until I realised that what really made me happy was underwater photography. So I’m creating my own way to make a living from photography.

What/who currently inspires you?

27mm (Enric Gener), Nolan Omura, Ben Thouard, Chelsea Yamase, and Josiah Gordon.

What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?

I would like to make people aware of garbage and plastic. I try with my photos to show him the truth inside the ocean. Recycling is very easy. I think people are understanding.

Are there any books/documentaries that have guided your thinking, and that you'd like to recommend to other ocean lovers?

Seaspiracy, Sea of Shadows, Chasing Coral, A Plastic Ocean, and My Octopus Teacher.

What legacy do you hope to leave?

My vision is to show the world our ocean to all the people who can’t. Raise awareness through my photography.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an Ocean Storyteller?

My advice is to always be yourself. Do the things that make you happy and enjoy every little step towards your dreams.
